One God, One Church
The Foundational Problem: A Documented Account
The Liberty of Conscience initiative is built on the vital principle that for Seventh-day Adventists, the Bible must be our only creed. But what happens when this principle is violated? What are the real-world consequences when a human statement, like the 28 Fundamental Beliefs, is used as a binding test of faith?
The book One God, One Church by Pastor John C. Witcombe documents the answer.
This compelling book provides a detailed, firsthand account of the growing crisis within the Seventh-day Adventist Church over the doctrine of God. Through the documented experiences of church elders Val and Eiji, Pastor Ken LeBrun, and the author himself, it reveals a troubling pattern: faithful members and pastors facing church discipline, termination from employment, and revocation of ordination for one primary reason—their refusal to affirm the precise wording of Fundamental Belief #2 over the plain teachings of Scripture.
The story culminates in a local conference dissolving a 171-member church because its members would not agree to use the Fundamental Beliefs as a creed to bar fellow members from leadership.
By chronicling these events, One God, One Church demonstrates that the concerns raised by the Liberty of Conscience petition are not theoretical. It shows how elevating the 28 Fundamentals to a creedal status supplants the Bible's authority, creates deep and painful division, and makes the church vulnerable to anti-Trinitarian movements by abandoning the solid ground of "a plain Thus saith the Lord".
We invite you to download and read this powerful testimony. Understand the human cost of this foundational problem and see for yourself why now, more than ever, we must stand together to ensure the Bible, and the Bible alone, is the standard for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Description
“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” James 2:19. Those devils do indeed tremble with rage when the missionaries of the cross dare to proclaim belief in this one God: “Let the missionaries of the cross proclaim that there is one God, and one Mediator between God and man, who is Jesus Christ the Son of the Infinite God. This needs to be proclaimed throughout every church in our land.” {Ms. 40, 1891}
The one God of the Bible has but one church: “There is but one church in the world who are at the present time standing in the breach…” {Ms. 139, 1901}
If we leave this one church—the Seventh-day Adventist Church—and start a new organization, as many anti-Trinitarians are now doing, we apostatize from the truth: “We cannot now enter into any new organization, for this would mean apostasy from the truth.” {Ms. 129, 1905}
